The Facts
John McCain said yesterday that “Were John McCain President over the last seven years, Donald Rumsfeld wouldn’t have had the President’s ear, federal spending wouldn’t have mushroomed, and China would be shamed for not doing enough to stop genocide”. The article said he was speaking to college students in Manchester, NH.
My View
Finally! I commented on an earlier post that none of the Republican candidates were using Bush’s name in any of their campaign speeches or debates, but they were all “sounding like” Bush when they talked about what they would do if elected. In that same report, I pointed out that there were a “ton” of other reports by folks who had recognized the same thing. Well, maybe some of the Republican candidates are hearing about that and taking the fact serious.
I’ve kind of liked McCain for a long time. I have felt that his politics are not extremist, which is something that can not be said for the current administration and some of the other candidates, both Republicans & Democrats. I know McCain is considerable behind in the polls, but hopefully he and the other Republican candidates are beginning to accept that most Americans are not satisfied with Bush’s policies for the past seven years, as the polls reflect. Although I feel that the word “mushroomed” is a gross understatement in reference to Bush’s federal spending, at least McCain has acknowledged it. He could have gone further and pointed out the fact that only about 43% of the spending has been on the Afghanistan and Iraqi wars, thereby circumventing anyone who might try to defend Bush’s spending by blaming it on the wars.
