Republican Candidates Debate in Iowa

December 12, 2007

I just spent one and a half hours watching the Republican candidates “debate” each other in Iowa. Mercy, mercy!

  • “Is our national debt a nationional security threat?” Romney & Giuliani basically gave no answer. The rest of the candidates danced around it.
  • “Who pays the most taxes; middle class, poor, rich, corporations?” Nobody answered that question.
  • “What plan, if any, do you have to protect the American worker?” No answer from anyone you could effectively translate.
  • “NFTA?” Two said it was bad and the rest said “it needs work”.

Lots more questions with their version of answers, but none that really meant anything important to regular folks. Giuliani mentioned a couple of times that we needed tax cuts to stimulate the economy. Translation: “More tax breaks for big business. I believe in a ‘trickle down’ economics policy.” Right! When was the last time that worked! Also, in reference to what he would do once he got in the White House, he said he would listen to the people; “when you don’t hear from the people ‘once in a while’ you loose prespective”. Once in a while? Hell, I guess that’s better than we’ve got now, or had in the last three adminstrations.

I didn’t jot down all the questions and answers, but I can say that Giuliani and Romney sure “sounded” good. Just what the American people need, another candidate that “sounds” good but nothing to offer the American working people. They’re typical politicians.
